The Keep Eco Residence

For the price, this place felt like too much. The room was tiny and the floors were dirty, though the bathroom was clean and the thick blanket was cozy. The pillows had no support at all, almost like sleeping without one. There’s a kitchen area, too.

The room was just okay for an overnight stay. It’s a budget-friendly option with a private room, and you can walk easily to the main attractions. Wi-Fi was good, and there are washer and dryer machines. Noise carries in from neighboring rooms, though, and there was a slight musty smell. Some spots in the hall and room could have been cleaner.

The location worked well, about a 10-minute walk from Salzburg station, and check-in by code was easy. They provide towels, and there’s a little restaurant downstairs. But I was disappointed by how different the actual room looked from the photos, and it was very small. It had its own sink, which was useful, but there were no towels in the toilet area for drying your hands. It was hot inside with no fan or AC. Opening the window meant hearing outside noise and trains, and sound traveled through the building, so people talking and doors opening and closing were easy to hear. My room was near the shower and toilet, and the squeaky floor was annoying every time someone went in or out. Unfortunately, it wasn’t worth the price.

The room design was one reason I booked, and I liked how easy the code-based check-in and check-out were. Staff cleaning the rooms were friendly and accommodating, and there was no check-in fee. It was one of the cheapest private room options I found. The location is handy, with Salzburg HBF 10 minutes away on foot, Mirabell Gardens about 5 minutes away, and the Old Town close enough to reach. Free public transport was included. The hostel was relatively quiet, though I might have just been lucky staying on a Monday. I didn’t hear people at night, but the passing trains still woke me once or twice. It’s next to the tracks, in a quieter, less lively part of town. I booked a month ahead and paid about $130 Canadian for one night at the beginning of July 2025. Even though it was only 15-20 C outside, the room was surprisingly hot, and there’s no AC. The pillows were small and uncomfortable. The shared bathroom and shower were a tiny room with a toilet and sink squeezed in, which the photos didn’t show accurately. There’s no reception, and luggage storage is just a room with shelves, which may not feel secure if you’re worried about your belongings. It wasn’t the right fit for what I want from a stay, though it might suit people who usually stay in hostels.
