Hotel De Pauw

There was no heating all night because the owner didn't want it on. The owners insulted and discriminated against us, threatened to call the police, and threw us out of the hotel. We called the police ourselves to help us get our things back. If this happens to you, don’t hesitate to call the police. You deserve to be treated with respect. Save yourself a horrible experience and don’t book here.

We only stopped in to check in with our friends and leave their heavy bags. We’d already explained that to the host, but within minutes of us entering their room, someone claiming to be the owner called and said the hotel was for two people only. They threatened to call the police if I didn’t leave right away and mentioned “cameras everywhere.” I felt treated like a criminal for no reason. You’re left feeling you have to tiptoe around the owners or they’ll make things miserable. Two thumbs down.

We arrived to find that our online reservation had been cancelled without any notice. The explanation was that there was no reservation without prepayment, and the owners spoke to us very rudely, as though we had insulted them. We were in a foreign country with nowhere to stay, and only found out when we got there. Mistakes and misunderstandings happen, but some compassion would have helped. People in Bruges were kind, but this first experience was the opposite. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

The receptionist was really welcoming, and the place was clean and quiet. Just right for our two days in Bruges.
