Save your money. My partner and I went to San Pedro, Belize for my birthday and had an amazing time except for this stay. I booked through Expedia so I wouldn’t be charged the conversion rate for the stay, and we split our time among three places to see and enjoy the island. From the photos, I couldn’t tell that this was an “open concept property.” It looked similar to the pictures but was more run down. In less than five minutes on the property at check-in, I had eight mosquito bites from my face to my feet, and my partner got six. The front desk associate said that was normal and the mosquitoes are more vicious at night. We arrived at 6 pm, so that already annoyed us. Then, while unpacking and showering, I found two lizards and other random bugs in the room. We slept there for the night, uncomfortable and scared, then politely asked the next morning if we could cancel the remaining nights and pay for the one we’d stayed, which seemed fair since they couldn’t do anything about the issues. The front desk told me I should have researched more because they couldn’t control the bugs, and that the lizards actually helped with them. I understand bugs being around the property, but not in my room. It felt like he was blaming me for not knowing. He told me to contact Expedia to seek a refund. Expedia contacted the hotel and tried its best to get one, but the manager refused and still charged me for the remaining three nights, which we didn’t stay. We had to pay for a third place to make sure we’d be comfortable. The property is also at least a 30-40 minute golf cart ride from everything else on the island.

We loved our evenings at Playa De Sala on Ambergris Caye, especially happy hour at The Jammin’ Bar with Marcus and Carlos. They were incredibly welcoming and even cooked the barracuda we’d caught, serving it with traditional Belizean sides. It was one of the best meals of our trip. We also had a lovely waterside spa package at Rosa Spa, with relaxing, luxurious massages and facials. This peaceful, intimate adults-only resort has a great chef, delicious food, and staff who made us feel at home. Playa De Sala became our favorite dinner spot, so we ate there most nights. It was a short walk or quick golf cart ride from our Airbnb, Lost at Sea, on the south end. There are also some lovely short-term rentals around the hotel, making it easy to stay nearby for drinks, dinner, or a spa day. San Pedro’s Playa De Sala is a wonderful place to unwind, with great cocktails, food, service, and a relaxing atmosphere. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting Belize, Ambergris Caye, or San Pedro.

We had a girls trip at this beautiful spot, and everything was lovely. Josh was accommodating and helpful when a situation could have been really stressful. Vickie, our housekeeper, was great and always left extra towels and anything else we needed. We hadn’t realized the hotel seemed more suited to couples, but it was quiet and beautiful, and there’s nothing else I’d change apart from being ready for mosquitoes next time. The welcome massages and drinks, hot towels when we arrived, and direct access to the beach were all great. The food and drinks were excellent too. Definitely a 10/10, and I can’t wait to visit again soon.

The snapper was the highlight for me: tender, full of flavor, and cooked just right. Its rich, balanced sauce was so good I wanted more. Sala’s Kitchen sits on a lovely rooftop with spectacular views, and the relaxed atmosphere works just as well for a special evening as for a casual night with a little elegance.

The bar on site had a great feel and drinks to match, a real little find. We also had a spacious, very clean room with a good balance of comfort and privacy, just right for a relaxing couple’s getaway. The staff made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived and went out of their way for us. Highly recommend, you won’t be disappointed.
