I arrived as a stranger and left feeling like I’d been staying with friends. Sandy and Patrick are wonderful hosts, and Sandy makes a delicious breakfast with great conversation. I’m already looking forward to coming back. The bottom suite with the giant bathtub is well worth considering!

Sandy and Patrick made our trip to BC one we won’t forget. They’re friendly, sincere, hardworking, and very laid-back. They’ll happily chat if you feel like it, and can help sort through the many day-trip options, suggest restaurants, or advise on what kind of car to rent. They don’t hover, and though you’re in their home, they give you plenty of privacy. If you have a request or preference, just tell them and they’ll do their best. Back to the Land is about a five-minute drive from town. A long road through the woods and up a hill leads to a beautiful clearing, the loghouse, and a spectacular mountain view. Inside, it has the cozy loghome feel with a recently renovated interior, and we felt comfortable right away. The rooms are clean and lovely, with balconies and ensuite bathrooms. The mezzanine lounge upstairs has a mini fridge and a selection of coffee and tea. It’s hard to leave the reclining chair by the window once you’ve settled in with a book and a mug of coffee. The beds are another part of the comfort. Sandy knows her mattresses and has put high-quality ones in every room, with a choice of pillows and a gorgeous duvet. Breakfast kept us well fed for days in the mountains, and we never had the same one twice during our stay of more than a couple of days. Sandy makes all kinds of breakfast comfort food, from bacon and eggs and spinach quiche to Balkan yoghurt with berries, pancakes, and maple syrup. You can sip coffee while hummingbirds flit around the feeders. Keep an eye out for the resident black bear, who’s been known to wander by the garden. For the quality and what you get, Back to the Land felt like a steal compared with the price of a basic hotel room in Golden. Whatever happens on your trip, it’s a great place to stay. It’s also a handy base for national parks and other attractions. Banff is well known and incredibly crowded, while nearby Yoho National Park is underrated. Kootenay is close too, and both parks have beautiful lakes, waterfalls, hikes, and more. Don’t miss them! We spent a week here in August 2019. I’ve stayed at quite a few BnBs, and Sandy strikes a perfect balance in every category. I’d highly recommend booking her BnB for a visit to the Rockies.

The hosts were welcoming and kind, and breakfast was delicious, homemade, and beautifully plated. We spent two nights in the Columbia suite, and the place was nicer than most hotels I’ve stayed in. If you want a quiet break from the city or a romantic cabin getaway, this is the spot. I can’t recommend it enough. Will come again, 10/10.

I stayed three nights in July and loved how quiet and clean it was. The interior and overall atmosphere feel so comfortable and inviting, like being at home. The breakfasts were exquisite. It’s one of the best B&B stays I’ve had, and I’ll definitely be back. I hope to have a home like this one day!

A lovely, quiet, comfortable place, with a delightful breakfast. The location worked perfectly for spending time in Yoho or travelling to Banff. We had an amazing time and would absolutely recommend staying here.
