We had a good enough stay for our group of 7 motorcyclists, though the price was more than I'd expect and I'd look around next time. The two cabins gave us separate beds, and they were clean with comfortable mattresses. We were there for 1 night. It's rustic and could use updating, but it met our needs. The train tracks run right behind the cabins and disturbed our sleep. Mosquitoes weren't a problem for us, despite what many people say. We all walked about 2.5 km into town for supper, where there are lots of restaurants and shops.

We were in cabin #10 for 1 night, and getting in and checking out were both easy. It was spacious and very clean, with three bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. The full bathroom was especially nice, thoughtfully designed and very clean, with lots of shelves. The internet and TV didn't work during our stay, but it didn't bother us much. The cabin is about 100 ft from the railway, and trains go by regularly. From the big living room window, it was nice to see them against the Rocky Mountains, and the noise didn't affect my sleep since they don't blow horns. For a busy Canadian Rockies travel period, 7/4 in our case, it was great value for the money.

We were traveling with two infants, and the mosquitoes around the property were so bad that we couldn't spend time outside or even get fresh air without being swarmed. The bites had us worried about the babies' health and safety. I understand the motel may not be responsible for the town's mosquito problem, but when we asked the host if anything could be done, he dismissed us and said to “deal with it.” We felt ignored and disrespected. Basic hospitality should include concern for guests' well-being, especially when children are involved. I wouldn't recommend this motel, particularly to families with young children.

MOSQUITOES MOSQUITOES MOSQUITOES!! Golden was overrun with mosquitoes when we stayed in August of 2025, and it was even worse at the motel. I know the business isn't responsible for the city's mosquito problem, but the host was extremely rude when we tried to explain that the place was unlivable. He wouldn't stay outside his office to talk with us for more than a couple of minutes and literally said, “you guys deal with it.” The train tracks directly behind the motel were noisy enough that we couldn't sleep. I'd give it zero stars if I could.

Comfort was limited and the Wi-Fi kept cutting in and out. The Brookside Motel may be listed as a 2-star hotel, but it wasn't on par with a Holiday Inn. Rustic, yes, more like a fishing camp, with old accessories and furniture that smelled.
