At check-in we were told there’d be karaoke from 9:30 pm until midnight, with noise noticeable in the room. That’s far too much noise for these rooms. Weekend guests should be clearly told that half the rooms may not be sleepable until midnight. The front desk offered a switch from our king room to a twin bunk bed upstairs, with no refund for the price difference. We’re definitely not coming back.

The front desk manager was great when an unexpected family emergency came up and changed our reservation for us. The hotel has coffee, food, spirits, and gaming, though I missed out on those extras because of the emergency. I’m hoping to try them next season when I plan to stay again. The place has a lot of character, with brick and wood giving it a nostalgic feel alongside the modern touches.

The restaurant and coffee shop are great, and there’s a shared area with a microwave, fridge, and other basics. Parking is scarce, though street parking is free from 5 pm to 9 am, and finding a spot can still be a scramble. Our room’s heat pump started with a loud noise that kept breaking up our sleep, so they moved us for the second night. Staff handled the problem well. Our friends’ room had a quiet heat pump, though, so check yours when you arrive. It’s a compact, comfortable Euro-style hotel, renovated a few years ago.

The location is central, but I wouldn’t stay at The Adventure Hotel again. I’d choose the Hume Hotel, where we’ve had quiet, comfortable stays several times. This time we tried somewhere different and regretted it. If you’re a light sleeper, I can’t recommend the Adventure. We checked in on January 10, 2026, and left the next morning after a frustrating night. The TV didn’t work when we returned to the room, so we couldn’t relax as planned. The wall-mounted heater and cooling unit buzzed loudly off and on all night. The floors creaked so much that trips to the bathroom woke my partner, and around 4 a.m. someone upstairs was banging around, as if moving chairs or furniture. At checkout I politely explained that I hadn’t slept because of the noise. I hoped for some goodwill, like a meaningful discount or credit, but got a generic apology and a note that the room would go on the repair list. They said we could have called to move rooms and that they had availability. But who wants to pack and move in the middle of the night, then try to settle in again for just a few hours? We wouldn’t stay here again. 1/5 stars.

The rooms are cozy and modern, there’s a communal kitchen, and both in-house restaurants have cool staff. For the value, it’s a pretty nifty place, right in the heart of Nelson. My concern is how much sound carries. At 4:45 am, I could clearly hear a group chatting over breakfast in the communal kitchen, more than 100 feet and several rooms away. They woke me and kept me up while talking about getting ready for an early hike. Walking down the hall, I could hear every shower in the adjoining rooms, too. It’s a cool spot, but bring earplugs if you want to make sure you get a full night’s sleep. Since the hotel seems aimed at active, athletic visitors, I suspect those early morning conversations happen daily.
