QBEDS Hostel

WOW, this was one of the best places I've stayed in a while. The creative rooms, cleanliness, and spacious feel made the experience special, and the staff were so kind. Whether you spend most of the day out or stay in, you'll love being here. You can't go wrong with QBEDS!!!

This is a restored historic mansion turned into a hostel, with private rooms on the top floor, separate from the shared bunk-bed dorms. Lots of guests are families with children, but solo travelers can still find it peaceful and welcoming. The hostel has an indoor forest with hammocks, a library, a gym, and even a cinema. Its spirit is all about meeting people, and it feels like a home away from home. The location is perfect for the Quebec Winter Carnaval, with the parade going right across the street.

The reception being shut was the biggest problem. I went to collect my bags before leaving and found the room locked for over 30 minutes. There was a sign saying staff would be back in a few minutes and to ring the bell, but ringing it got no response. Bag storage is a nice option, but staff can disappear for long stretches without saying when they’ll return. The room itself was okay, and the nighttime noise didn’t bother me. I did find it odd that guests have to put their own sheets on the bed. The showers are tiny, and there are a lot of stairs to reach the rooms. If you value your time, I wouldn’t book this hostel.

There’s plenty of room to hang out on a lazy day, and the design is really beautiful. The reading room, board games, gym and movie theater are great extras. It’s also a 15-20 minute walk to the main spots, if you don’t mind walking. The bunks are so cramped you can’t sit upright without hitting your head. With ceilings that high, they could have left more headroom. You have to make your own bed when you arrive, fitted sheet and all, which had me shaking my head. Showers are tiny, about a 4-by-4 box, and not great, though they are clean. There aren’t storage cabinets, just squeaky, inconvenient drawers under the beds. Room amenities could use some work, but it was good overall.
