Noise was the biggest problem. Doors kept slamming, people talked loudly in the hall, and we heard footsteps from the room above. We couldn’t rest and ended up cutting our stay short. We’d moved here from a nearby property because the suite-style rooms and rates looked appealing. Our suite was dated but reasonably clean. The blackout curtains were barely hanging on, and the WC was clogged, so we had to use the sink in the living area. The lobby felt old, with a garbage bin and a trolley of used dishes left out, and the front desk area and hallways looked worn. The atmosphere was uncomfortable too, with police there often and groups of young people coming and going who looked intoxicated. We told the front desk and arranged a late checkout. On the day we left, a housekeeping supervisor tried forcefully to enter despite our “Do Not Disturb” sign, challenged the checkout arrangement, wouldn’t listen, and threatened a late fee. Her behavior was highly unprofessional. The property feels neglected and needs renovation and better staff training.
We ended up with five more spider bites on my legs on our last night. The night before, I’d woken with three bites that were infected by morning, so I had to visit a clinic. That meant an unexpected expense since I’m not from Saskatchewan. The hotel offered 20% off our first night and one night free, which we appreciated, but it doesn’t cover the medical costs, discomfort, or the rest of the poor stay. We checked in Thursday evening, but by 8:45 p.m. we had to switch rooms because the family upstairs was making extreme noise. It sounded like their children were being murdered. After two complaints, staff said we had to move because the other guest had children, even though my mother has a broken ankle. The replacement room was much smaller and unrenovated, a clear downgrade, and its bathroom was dirty compared with the first room. The next night was quiet. Between the noise, the downgrade, and the spider infestation, this was incredibly disappointing. I hope management fixes these problems so other guests don’t have the same experience.
There was a huge hole in our room’s blackout curtains, and they were hanging from only a few hooks. The toilet seat was broken, though the room itself was clean. There was nowhere to sit except the bed, and breakfast was so basic I wondered why they served it at all. The lobby felt unwelcoming, with a dirty-dish cart and garbage cans in the seating area. Reception and the hallways were dark and dingy. The whole place feels sad, like nobody makes any effort or cares about the hotel.
The beds were comfortable, but that was about the only good thing. The carpets in our room were disgustingly dirty, and the toilet was plugged. There was no ice bucket and no window screen. Staff didn’t answer the phone and didn’t want to give us extra towels or toilet paper. When I asked about cleaning the room and changing the sheets, they said they don’t do that.
The bedding was visibly dirty, and there were stains all over the carpets. The walls and curtains looked dirty too. My children were actually scared and thought the stains were blood. This was the dirtiest, filthiest hotel I’ve ever stayed in, and I’m never coming back.
