Travelodge by Wyndham Vancouver Airport

The room was comfortable and the location is handy for amenities, but the carpet was quite dirty and needs replacing. The late-night, last-minute check-in went smoothly, though the front desk guy had no personality and wasn’t friendly. A false fire alarm went off at 4 am, and everyone had to evacuate. Waiting outside felt a bit sketchy. The place definitely needs renovations. I was going to take a bath, but changed my mind when I saw the color of the water.

The location is convenient for the airport, shops, and restaurants within walking distance, and the hotel was clean. There’s no breakfast, though they do offer grab-and-go bags. The pool isn’t heated, and the hot tub is small with most of its jets not working, but it is a comfortable temperature. The hotel is old and needs updating inside and out. The exterior needs paint and the grounds need care. The parking lot needs repairs, costs $10 each night, and needs a ramp for luggage carts. Inside, everything is very outdated, and the pillows need to be thrown out.

Our experience has been incredibly negative. I made a group booking, then cancelled the rooms after reading reviews about fraudulent charges. I clearly asked the attendant to cancel every room, but they cancelled only one. We were charged one night for each room under their policy, and their mistake has cost us $1000. We were then charged again for the second night. Someone there was kind and said those charges would be reimbursed, and eventually they were. The most upsetting issue was an $11,000 authorization on our credit card, even though we had not set up a card authorization. To be fair, the attendant thought it shouldn’t have happened. Mistakes happen, but even if it had been processed twice by accident, the amount still didn’t add up. The hotel didn’t handle this professionally, call to ask about our experience, or mention the authorization. We went to the corporate office and legal, but Wydham made no effort to investigate, saying, “talk to them, it's privately owned”. When I filed a complaint, Guest Services said, “we can't do anything about it, we just write the report”. We’ve never had an experience like this with a hotel. Please don’t book just because it looks less expensive. It won’t be in the end.

I was wary after reading the reviews, but chose this place for its price and location. The reviews were right about the rooms being very dirty. Ours still had travel items and dirty towels in it, and there were tons of bugs. We told the staff how unclean it was. They cleaned up a bit more, but said the bugs were whatever.
