Embarc Vancouver

The floor-to-ceiling windows gave us great views from the 30th floor, and the location made it easy to walk just about anywhere. We had a quick two-night getaway. The rooms are small, but nicely done.

The front desk staff were friendly, and the hotel is handy for several good shops and restaurants, including Breka and Yolks. Pacific Center is only a few blocks away. There were some downsides in our room: the bed had a rut or divot that made sleeping uncomfortable, one outlet didn’t work, and we could hear people in the neighbouring rooms, so privacy wasn’t great. Parking costs $37/day and isn’t included, which feels like a lot given downtown room prices.

After my flight was delayed, I reached the property at 12:10 a.m. There was nobody there, the door was locked, and no one picked up my calls. I booked through Booking.com, whose customer service told me the check-in window ended at midnight, though no one had told me that beforehand. I’ve never heard of a strict midnight cut-off without prior notice. I couldn’t check in or get a refund, and after a long flight I had to find another hotel in the middle of the night. Extremely unprofessional and unacceptable.

Our one-bedroom suite had two bathrooms and a well-stocked kitchenette. The rooms were bright and clean, and the hotel was incredible.
