The Craigmyle

This is a bed and breakfast style guest house, not a typical hotel, and I really liked the atmosphere and style. Some people may not be looking for that kind of place, though. The house was incredibly clean and inviting, and our room had everything we needed plus an awesome view of the nearby castle. The living room area was cozy and relaxing. Coffee, tea, and filtered water were available all day. It’s a very quiet neighborhood, with downtown shopping and dining about a mile away on foot.

The room was clean and the bed was soft, and the old Victorian feel was quaint. For the money, it wasn’t a bad deal, though I’ve had better value experiences. The bathroom had only a shower, and it was pretty cramped. When we arrived, a strong marijuana smoke smell had spread through all three floors, which was unpleasant. Staff should do a better job making sure guests follow the rules.

The staff were so, so lovely, and the interior was absolutely beautiful. It was super clean, with a kitchen, laundry area, dining space, and living area. The guest house was amazing, and it was easy to walk places or catch the bus. We added the delicious home-cooked Brekky for $10 both mornings of our stay. Such a great experience, and I’d definitely come back :))

Very clean, with Victorian decor, but the rooms are small and there are lots of steps. If you want to use the basement laundry, you have to change your own bedding and towels to get them. The price was okay, though I’ve stayed in nicer B&Bs for a little more.
