The Victoria Regent is close to the best restaurants and sights, yet away from the tourist crush. Luxury comes at a price, but we found this a memorable place for our first visit to Victoria, BC in mid-September. It’s a small, quiet, European-style boutique hotel with just 80 units across eight floors. More than 20 units are individually owned. The harbor-facing suites have fantastic views of the setting sun, while the city-facing units seemed much smaller and more economical. If you can, the suites are worth the extra cost. The top floor is penthouse level. Our suite was nearly 1,000 square feet, with a separate bedroom and bathroom, living room, fully equipped kitchen, large dining area, and lots of closets and luggage storage. There was plenty of seating, a dining table and chairs, and a desk. The furnished balcony overlooking the harbor was the standout. There was a 50-inch TV in the living room and another in the bedroom, and the beds were extremely comfortable. Daily housekeeping, on-site parking, WiFi, a 24/7 front desk, a business center, wheelchair access, and friendly, helpful staff rounded out the stay.

My daughter and I had a spacious, clean room with a balcony, and the service was wonderful from booking through checkout. Every staff member we dealt with was courteous and helpful. The location is great for getting around on foot. Free parking was a real convenience, and they let us leave the car there for a few extra hours after checkout. I only wish there were a restaurant with room service, though there are plenty of places just outside and within walking distance.

The harbor view gave us plenty to enjoy in the mornings and evenings, and I’d definitely stay here again. We had a comfortable, clean, well-maintained two-bedroom room with a partial harbor view. It wasn’t especially fancy, and daily cleaning was included. For a small group, sharing the cost makes it more affordable. A few drawbacks: outlet access in one bedroom was terrible, so lamps with outlets would be welcome. It wasn’t clear how to get to the waterfront, and a map with directions would help. The water taxi stops right in front. Shower pressure was dismal, though that seems common in buildings of a certain age.

The location right on the waterfront was amazing, close to lots of restaurants and shops. Our one-bedroom suite was very spacious and had a full kitchen, and the beds were comfortable.

We booked a Marina view room, with beautiful views of both the harbor and the city. It was clean and very spacious, and the staff were very good. We’d love to stay here again on our next trip back to Victoria.
