Virden Motel

We only stayed one night on a road trip because it was the only hotel open. The man working there was nice, and we knew this was a budget place in the off season, but it still didn't meet our expectations. The bed felt like an old military cot, and cardboard pieces were propping up the table and TV stand. The bathroom floor looked like it hadn't been updated since the 1980s. The shower had a strange, oddly uncomfortable shape. The water never ran clear and was full of lime, and the coffee maker was pretty gross inside. If you're on a very tight budget with nowhere else to go, it might work. Otherwise, it's not worth it and needs a lot of work.

I had a restful, quiet night's sleep here, and the bed was comfortable and clean. The room was extremely clean too. It's a safe, affordable motel with what you need for a no frills stay, right off the highway. The front desk gentleman was very helpful and polite. The front door deadbolt does work, but you have to push the door with a little force to line it up with the hole. I'd highly recommend it.

The first room I was given hadn't been cleaned, so the man moved me to one at the back. That one smelled unpleasant too, and the windows wouldn't open. Turning on the air conditioner was a bad idea because it spewed dust and other nastiness. I left the door open all night for fresh air and to keep an eye on my truck. The flies had made themselves at home and I'd invaded, but for $85, what can I say? I nearly put up the tent on top of my truck.

After a long drive, I was so glad to get a good night's sleep in a bed I loved. The room was clean and quite decent, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and the price was very reasonable.
