We paid for a Mountain View, but a big, ugly red crane blocked it. When we asked at the desk about switching to a room on the other side, they said no, though they did offer one for an extra $300 a night. The room itself was small, which might have been fine if it were comfortable or had the promised view. The “Queen” bed was literally two twin beds pushed together, and my husband kept falling into the gap. There was no thermostat or way to control the room temperature. The pillows were awful, just two flat, old ones that we had to fold in half for any comfort. Do NOT book here.

We could walk easily to restaurants and other places in town, and the hotel itself was great. Our room was spacious and clean, with magnificent views. Breakfast had a good choice of options, and the bar staff were friendly, efficient, and wonderfully attentive. Five stars for Sunstar.

The snowy mountain view from the indoor pool was breathtaking, and the rooms were cozy, clean, and bright enough to read in. I also liked that the lights worked without putting the key card in a slot. My only room-related wish was for extra pillows. The hotel is right by the cable cars to the ski slopes and close to other amenities. Breakfast in the buffet dining room was tasty, and the staff were lovely throughout. There’s also a formal dining room. Special thanks to Kitti at the bar, and to Margarida, Barbara, Mara, and Carolina for serving us on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. They were wonderful. Thanks as well to Luís and Daniel for breakfast, and to Lillie and Dot at reception, sorry if I’ve got that last name wrong. It’s a bit expensive, but I absolutely recommend the hotel and would stay again. Grindelwald is a beautiful, very typical town.

The location, dining, and wellness facilities were all good. The rooms were okay, though a bit dated, as were some of the elevators and the hallway. We arrived to find the pool closed, with no advance notice. The staff kindly tried to make up for it with some gifts, but the pool was one of the main reasons we chose this hotel.

Margarida served us at the bar, where my friend and I tried European cocktails for the first time. We loved them! She was really nice and honest about how the drinks would taste, which made it even more enjoyable. Thank you!
