Gornergrat Dorf

I spent four nights there about a year ago, in summer 2020, as a solo hiker during the Ultraks. The staff were friendly and accommodating, my room was clean and fine for the time I spent in it, and I also had a nice dinner there. It’s not a four- or five-star hotel, but you know that when you book. My main complaint was breakfast: very basic, with lots of cold deli meat, yogurt, and cheese, but nothing freshly prepared. I’d like more healthy choices such as freshly cut fruit and healthier breads, plus more vegetarian and vegan options. Not everyone eats cold deli meat.

The balcony looked old, but it faced the Matterhorn, which I really loved. I’d heard people complain about the hotel, but it’s right across from the main station and a supermarket is just around the corner, so what is there to complain about? It’s Zermatt, and at this price you shouldn’t expect a cheap, private room. Mine cost only 15 USD more than the hostel 😂

The location is great and the staff were nice, but the hotel was disgusting and needs renovation. The rooms are old, there was mold all over the shower, and garbage sat in the lobby for two days. The sheets left red rashes all over my back and legs. Breakfast was horrible.

Dinner and breakfast were extremely good, and the rooms were clean and modern. The facilities are simple, which makes sense given how remote the place is. Sleeping at 3100m altitude in a hotel at the top of a mountain, with a view of the Matterhorn from the room, is quite a unique experience.
