This felt more like a hostel with strict rules than a vacation home, and the experience was awful. I arrived at night exhausted after a journey of more than 10 hours, checked in smoothly, and had booked for one day. The next morning I went looking for breakfast as I'm vegetarian, and it took a while to get back. When I returned, I was locked out with my luggage inside. The helpline wouldn't take WhatsApp calls. I emailed and tried everything I could, then luckily managed to call using my international SIM. The person on the phone was extremely rude and had no courtesy, speaking more like a warden with comments like “did you here what I just said,” “why did you not obey the rules,” and “stay there I won’t have housekeeping looking for you.” A ten minute delay led to that behavior and ruined our vacation day. We eventually got our luggage. Book this if you want a terrible vacation experience!

The room was very basic, with nowhere to put our clothes, so we had to leave them on the dirty floor. We could also hear people walking around and conversations from the next rooms, which was frustrating when trying to sleep. Self check-in was easy if you don't mind doing it yourself. We couldn't get another pillow or fresh towels because there was no one to ask. Public transport is easy to reach, with a tram stop about two minutes away and the main station a 15 minute walk.

The room was spacious and nice, and the neighborhood seemed safe. We walked about 1 km from the train station and Zurich city. We didn't pay for early check-in, so waited until 3, and using the check-in machines was easy. We booked through Airbnb and they were fairly responsive there. We had a lovely stay and would come back if in Zurich.

The room is very small, and HB is a 16 minute walk away. There's a little store downstairs, though a much larger supermarket is nearby. The lighting controls are odd, and it'd be better to choose specific lights. A microwave or even a shared sofa might help, but there's no communal kitchen at all.

For the price, it was OK, and I found many of the reviews accurate but more negative than the place deserved. The bed was comfortable enough and my room was very clean. Check-in by machine was simple, and I paid extra to arrive early because I needed somewhere to leave my luggage. A few things to know: the rooms get warm and there's no AC. It wasn't especially hot during my week, but I still left the windows open. With them open, the church bells were hard to miss, ringing about every 15 minutes from roughly 7 am to 22, with a full performance each hour. When I kept the windows shut, a sewage smell developed after a while. I managed it by keeping the bathroom door closed, running the extractor fan, and leaving a window open while I was out. I'm not sure I'd stay again for a long visit, but for a weekend it should be fine if you want something reasonably priced and fairly accessible to the center.
