Marrigold Hostel

The room may be small, but for a budget hostel and the price, it was an ideal size. It was very clean, with daily cleaning, and the staff were amazing and accommodating. They helped us book taxis and gave tips on where to find different foods. Free Wi-Fi and drinking water were included too. Given how much water costs in Hong Kong, it felt like a steal.

Even at a low price, this place wasn't worth it for me. The photos online are false, and there are much better places to stay in chungking. It was dirty, and the owners came across as intimidating and rude. Easily the worst place I've come across on my travels, and it doesn't deserve even one star.

Don't do it. The staff seemed completely uninterested, the whole building felt dodgy, and the place was dirty, with bugs, cockroaches, and exposed wires. The advertised bottled water, coffee, and tea weren't there.

We left the next morning and booked another hotel after spending our first night awake because we didn't feel safe. We'd been given a bunk bed where you couldn't even sit up on the top bunk, in a room with rubbish beside the bed. The shower was clogged and wouldn't even shut off. We were moved to another building and made to share a combined room with other guests. It had no lock and there was no elevator access. We knew the room would be small, but the booking-site photos were misleading. They also charged us 150 HKD for checking out earlier than our booking. I strongly suggest investing in a hotel with amenities when going to HK.
