Puerto Bahía Hotel

The staff are consistently nice and helpful, and the location is convenient for a few days of travel. The rooms are okay for a two-star hotel, so keep expectations modest, but they do the job. Noise is the bigger issue: there's almost no sound insulation, so you hear other guests and staff working. If you've been out doing activities and hope to sleep in, think again.

Vanessa and her team were so kind and went above and beyond. They gave us restaurant tips, brought coffee to our rooms, and arranged our onward trips to Barichara and later Bucaramanga. Their attention and willingness to help made our stay fantastic. It's a lovely hotel right in the centre of San Gil.

The reception staff were helpful, and San Gil is small enough that everything is pretty close, but the hotel's location at the edge of town wasn't very good. The rooms and bathrooms are small, the windows face only the staircase, and in the heat there's just a fan, no air conditioning. There's no fridge or safe either. Breakfast was terrible, the worst we had in Colombia. I would avoid this hotel.

The staff are super helpful, but the rooms have a lot of problems. The beds squeak whenever you move, and the old air conditioner in room 207 was extremely noisy. The windows didn't shut properly, so kitchen noise started at 6 a.m. and made it hard to sleep after that. People talked loudly until midnight, and it seemed there wasn't a noise policy after certain hours. Bathrooms are cramped, there's no bathmat so the floor stays wet, and the hot water isn't hot enough for more than a quick shower. Breakfast was okay but not great, and parking is extremely tight.
