Arktur City Hotel

The breakfast was tasty, with plenty of bread, toppings, yoghurt, and coffee, and the employee who first greeted us was very friendly and happy to chat. But we had a rough stay overall during the five days and nights we booked. At first glance the room looked okay, but unpacking showed it was quite dirty. The shower curtain stank and looked moldy along the bottom, and there was a humming noise throughout the room. It seemed the cleaning crew hadn’t done the room after the previous guests. Before bed we found lots of hairs and stains in the bed, so we wondered whether the hotel cared about hygiene. We couldn’t reach anyone that evening and had to sleep in the dirty bed before we could report it. The cleaners also ignored the do-not-disturb signs on the door.

The furniture was very old and scratched, and the room was uncomfortable despite being clean. The internet only worked near the main door, and even there the connection was bad. There was no air conditioning, minibar, or safe, and it gets really hot in summer. Traffic noise was very loud. The “restaurant” had only about six tables, not enough for all the rooms. Breakfast was okay. I’d stay here only if I had to.

The room had no air conditioning, the TV didn’t work, and the beds were soft but their wooden frames bruised my legs while I slept. Parking on the street is free, but you have to get lucky and find a space. We struggled to communicate because the reception staff spoke poor English. They couldn’t tell us where to buy the green Umwelt zone sticker for the car. Breakfast was miserable, with too few tables, so we had to wait several times. When we finally got in, the woman in charge of the kitchen told us we had to finish because it was two minutes past 10. Very impolite. They also stopped refilling the food after 9:00, so the trays were empty, including the vegetables.

The hotel feels like an expensive hostel, and I wouldn’t stay here again for the price. The website photos don’t match the rooms, and ours was uncomfortable, dated, and had very narrow beds. The TV was tiny and the reception was poor. The bathroom was cramped, with a shower head that wasn’t mounted properly. We either had to hold it or use low water pressure, otherwise the spray went straight across to the opposite wall and left the floor soaking wet. The included breakfast was reasonable, but there was hardly anywhere to sit. There were about ten tables, only four with four seats, so guests stood around waiting for a place. It was basically a hallway. Parking is limited, though transit access is good. The hotel isn’t worth what they charge. Avoid it.
