Easy Lodges

The hostel staff were rude and aggressive. What they did to me seriously violated my basic civil rights and dignity. It also left me with reasonable doubts about possible close ties between them and representatives of the Chinese Communist Regime in Berlin, especially the PRC Embassy in Berlin. I suspect this may have involved them in the regime's efforts to carry out transnational repression against critics and dissidents like me who are currently in Germany.

We were there in mid-November, when it was about 0° outside. We turned the radiator on for a few hours and went out to eat, but the room was just as cold when we got back because the door isn't sealed well. The blankets were very thin too, so we went to bed fully dressed and still woke up with runny noses. Wouldn't recommend it.

It's a cheap, no-frills place, and that's about what you should expect. Getting to the city center is easy by metro or scooter, and it was quiet while we were there. The huts sit close together, so don't expect a romantic cabin feel. It was cold, though. Bring warm clothes or an electric blanket if you're visiting in fall or winter. Staff were okay, the room was okay, and we enjoyed the stay apart from the cold.

We stayed in early December and packed warm sleepwear after reading that the lodges could get chilly in fall and winter. With that and the small electric radiator in the room, we stayed warm enough at night. The blinds were a little too short to cover the whole window, so we improvised with a scarf. We noticed that didn't seem to be an issue in the other lodges. The toilets, showers, and shared kitchen were clean, and the common room felt cozy and worked well for breakfast. The nearest U-station is about a 10-minute walk and takes you straight into the center. It's comfortable enough for a budget trip if you don't need luxuries, and the rooms were perfectly fine.
