Numa Berlin Kudamm

NUMA is one of those high-tech hotels with no reception. You enter the building with a five-digit code, and scan a QR code on the way out. We paid 105 Euro for a room with a balcony, and it was very good. Despite being in a busy commercial area, it was quiet inside. The beds were quite good, the heating was adequate, the Wi-Fi worked well, and the washrooms were clean. There are also rooms with kitchens. Wittenbergplatz metro is a 5-7 minute walk, KaDeWe mall is 200m away, and Vietnamese and Indian food and McDonalds are around 250m away. There are bins for trash on the 4th floor, and laundry facilities for washing and drying. We stayed two nights, so there was no cleaning. We reused our bath towels, which wasn’t a problem, just unusual.

A handy place if you’re working while traveling. There’s a great co-working area, and the luggage lockers are useful if you arrive before check-in. The rooms are large, really clean and comfortable, with everything you need. It’s close to the zoo and shopping area, and the S-Bahn is easy to get to.

This place has very little service and no staff on site. When something goes wrong, expect a long wait on the phone. I spent 45 minutes trying to get into my room because they hadn’t sent the instructions. Then they wouldn’t give me the access code unless I paid a city tax, even though my booking via booking.com said all taxes were included. The room was kind of okay, but the sofa had lots of dirty marks, as if it had been used for exercise. Daily cleaning wasn’t included, which hadn’t been mentioned in the booking. You also share the entrance corridor with sweaty people coming from a third-party fitness club in the same building. Later, a fire alarm was triggered and I was stuck outside for 40 minutes. At 250 euros a night, this is terribly poor value. Never again.

Great location, a lovely room, a perfect shower, and a comfortable bed. Check-in and checkout through the app were easy. There are luggage lockers, toilets and coffee on the 5th floor, accessed with a pin code. The price was very good, and the basics were great, so you bring the extras yourself. We’ll be back.
