Solitaire Hotel & Boardinghouse Berlin

We had to cancel our booking for 17th to 20th July 2024 through booking.com because we got coronavirus and were too sick to travel. I told the hotel, but they still charged us for almost all three nights, which was a lot of money. When I explained the situation, the hotel told me to contact booking.com. After five or six calls, booking.com support told me to call the hotel. Neither one helped. Were we supposed to travel with a fever and risk spreading the virus in the breakfast room? The service was very poor, and when we really needed help, there was none.

Good value, with friendly staff and an easy check-in. I called when I was running 5-10min late because reception closes at 9pm. The receptionist waited patiently and was able to check me in personally.

Whenever my family comes to see me, they book a room at the Solitaire hotel. I've stayed there quite a few times myself since I live nearby. The prices aren't the lowest in the city, but the place is very clean, and all the plants give it a distinctive feel. Breakfast has plenty of options, and I've never had trouble with the service. The one snag is that reception is sometimes left empty, so you may have to wait.

The reception guy coming into our room at 6am on the last day was really creepy. I woke up and saw an unknown man standing in front of the bed. He said we hadn't heard our alarm and that he wanted to check whether we were alive. It scared us badly. The rest of the place didn't help: the hotel is very old, there's no mini-bar, and the balcony had no chairs, table, or anything else. It was cold outside at 9 degrees, and there was no heating for the first two days. I had to install the TV software myself to get the TV working. The internet also makes you log in again every 24 hours. Worst hotel I've ever seen.
