Hotel Keese

It’s right by a metro station and the location is great. The room was clean and spacious, and checkout was quick and easy. People complaining about noise should remember they’re on the Reeperbahn. You’re not there to sleep, so enjoy your stay!

The only good thing I found was the nice receptionist. The room was tiny and so noisy it felt like being out in the street. There’s no elevator, just lots of stairs, so you’ll need strong knees. The bathroom was dirty, and the place was dark and smelled of burnt oil. Maybe it would do if you just need a pub near the city centre and have no plans for the day or need to sleep at night. For this price, though, you can find better.

For 70 euros a night, I guess it’s meant to be cheap. The sheets and towels get changed daily, and there is Wi-Fi if you’re very patient about finding it. The room is 8 square metres, gloomy with just one bulb overhead, and there’s only a shelf instead of a table. You can hear the neighbours, and staff can enter your room without letting you know or asking permission. Also, this is the red-light district, with homeless and drunk people around and cheap sex workers. Every day, live music and some amazing vocals carry on until 2 am. Closing the windows doesn’t help. Noise and darkness pretty much sum it up.

It was okay this time, though our previous stay was better. This room smelled of old cigarette smoke even though it was meant to be non-smoking, which was disappointing.
