KNAUS Campingpark Hamburg

Everything was perfect. Getting yet another app, making an account, and all that just to use the washing machine wasn’t really my thing, but I guess that’s how it goes now. If you’d rather skip the bus to the U-Bahn station, an Uber to Niendorf Nord costs €16.

The facilities were clean, but dated, with fixed shower heads and only six showers and toilets for men despite well over a hundred pitches. The staff weren’t helpful. The receptionist insisted I definitely couldn’t get a bus ticket unless I bought it online or had a Hamburg card, but we took the bus and paid the driver. After a little rain, poor drainage left standing water around the site, snorkel territory, basically. This was the most expensive campsite we’ve ever used, yet there was no café or bar, and it wasn’t worth the €53 we were charged, or even €35. One of the worst sites we’ve stayed at, apart from Knaus Nuremberg. Knaus camping is so expensive that we wouldn’t use them again, except maybe the Koblenz site for its location.

The staff were friendly, and the facilities were clean and modern. Hot showers and laundry machines were handy. Camping with a tent felt a bit expensive at €35 a night. There was a little road noise, but it really wasn’t bad. Overall, comfortable.

Staff were very helpful, and the toilets and showers were clean and good. The bus and U-Bahn were easy to use, though the campsite is a fair way from the city. We stayed one night on the way from the UK to Denmark so we could visit Hamburg, and I’d use it again as a stopover, but not for more than one night. Our pitch was near the far end, a decent size but an odd shape, with a bush in front of the expected entrance. The electricity point was far away, and some pitches may need a 50 m lead. After rain, parts of the site had standing water, which would be unpleasant for a longer stay.
