Vienna House Easy by Wyndham Hamburg

On the first night I arrived around 9:45 PM to find reception empty. I rang the night bell several times as other guests came and went, but no one answered. After about 20 minutes a receptionist appeared and said he’d been busy elsewhere in the building. In my room there was a white stain on the carpet by the foot of the bed, and soon after I found the toilet in an unacceptable state. The underside of the seat looked as though it hadn’t been cleaned in a very long time. It was already 11 PM, so I planned to report it in the morning. I’ve seen public toilets in better condition. The next morning I told reception and showed photos, expecting the problems to be sorted out that day. When I came back late that evening, the room had only been superficially cleaned and the hygiene issues were still there. I raised it again the following morning with the same receptionist, who tried to play down my concerns. Only after I complained repeatedly did another staff member, apparently from housekeeping, approach me in the breakfast area and offer a different room. I checked that it was clean, then moved my things. After work later that day, my keycard didn’t work. A third receptionist was dealing with other guests’ room issues and kept me waiting. It turned out the room change had never been entered in the hotel system, and my suitcase had been taken out of the room and put in storage because they had no idea who was staying there. After another long wait, I got my luggage back and a working keycard. Three days later, I can say this was my worst business stay at a hotel. The central location came with very unpleasant surroundings. St Georg is the epicenter of people using and selling drugs. With the cleanliness, service, and overall experience, I can’t recommend this hotel at all.

For a night or two, the hotel is fine, but I wouldn’t want to stay longer. It’s close to both the city center and train station, which was handy, and the staff were friendly. Breakfast had the usual things you’d want to start the day. The photos make it look much more modern than it is; in person it felt a bit outdated. The carpet was stained, the bed frame looked worn, and the walls need fresh paint. There was nowhere suitable to hang clothes, and the bathroom had an unpleasant strong sewer smell.

Good value and a clean room, but it was so small I couldn’t properly open my luggage. The location is great, though food is limited to breakfast and there aren’t many drink options.

It was a good stay overall, though the bed frame seemed partly broken, as in the photo, and the carpet looked really old.
