Holiday Inn Express Munich City West by IHG

The location made sightseeing easy, about 8 minutes from Munich Central Train Station and roughly 45 minutes from the airport. Several supermarkets were within a five-minute walk. We had a comfortable, pleasant stay, well suited to exploring the city. We stayed five nights over New Year at Holiday Inn Express Munich City West by IHG. At arrival, reception kindly gave us a room facing the city and train station so we could watch the fireworks. It wasn’t ready yet, so we left our luggage and went out to explore, then came back after dinner to check in. We were on the sixth floor. The twin room fitted two large suitcases, though walking space was limited. The bed was comfortable, pillows could be better, and the linen and towels were clean. The bathroom was a decent size, with adequate water pressure and plenty of hot water for winter. Breakfast was much the same each day, like at most hotels. The windows only tilted open, and opening them would have let in noise from the nearby road and train.

The staff were consistently friendly and helpful, and the rooms were clean and spacious with very comfortable beds. The hotel itself is nice, and being right next to the station makes trips into Munich easy. I had a comfortable stay overall. There isn’t much around the hotel apart from an Aldi and a small grocery shop, with little choice for bars, restaurants or nightlife. After a long walk, the only nearby bar we found was tiny and cash only. Taxis were expensive, around €130 from the airport and about €40 into central Munich. Breakfast was decent but basic, mostly breads, meats and continental options. There was no bacon or sausage while we were there, and the rooms sometimes got quite warm. It’s a good hotel, though the location may not work for anyone wanting nearby places to eat or go out.

We didn’t try the hotel facilities, but the trains made it easy to get everywhere. The area felt safe, the rooms were clean, and the staff were very nice and helpful. Breakfast was amazing. We went to Old Town, where we visited the HB Haus for beer and food and shopped at the Christmas market. Another day we visited Dachau concentration camp, which was very moving. I highly recommend getting a tour guide.

I had a wonderful weekend, with lovely facilities and a perfect location, just one minute from Hirscgarten station. Every employee was so kind, and breakfast was excellent and very complete. If you’re looking for accommodation in Munchen, this is surely one of the best choices. We’ll definitely return next year. Congratulations, and thanks for the great hospitality.
