Holiday Inn Munich - South by IHG

The building has no real charm, and getting around inside it was frustrating: the hallways seem endless, with only two elevators for hundreds of rooms. Renovation work was underway. My room was only partly updated, the restaurant was closed, and the wellness area was somewhere in the middle of renovation. The hotel is outside the centre, around a 10 minute walk from the Ubahn, so allow about 30 minutes to reach central Munich. Maybe the finished renovations will give it something going for it, but I wouldn't be in a hurry to return.

There was a fire alarm at around 11:30 pm, and after the first night the AC stopped working. Management didn't seem to be in a hurry to get it fixed. If the AC works properly, this would be a decent place to stay.

The location felt safe and was convenient, with a metro station just a few minutes' walk away for reaching the city centre and attractions. We had a wonderful family stay. The room was modern, spacious, spotless, and comfortable, with excellent beds and a fresh, well-cared-for feel. It really felt like home, and my children already miss it. Breakfast had lots of choice and very good food. The restaurant staff were kind and great with children. There was a fairly priced children's menu, plus games and colouring activities my kids loved and even took home. The sauna and steam room were spotless and relaxing too. The service was wonderful and the hotel was excellent value. We'd happily return, highly recommended!

Ground-floor rooms seem to be the worst: old and dirty, and not what you'd expect from their so-called “quality standard.” Some staff also need proper customer service training and anger management. If you can stay somewhere else, PLEASE DO. Our first room had a filthy sofa bed that wouldn't open properly. We were moved, but the next room had a dirty bathroom and sheets with hair on them. At reception, one guest service agent heard us out and apologized. When we asked for reimbursement, another agent, near the end of his shift, butted in and arrogantly asked what was going on. He spoke as if he owned the hotel and kept telling us, “you don’t need to create problems in this hotel,” even though we were speaking normally. We had paid cash, and he said he didn't have the key to the safe box, so we'd have to wait until Monday for a refund. That left us stuck at the hotel. Mohamed reluctantly moved us again, this time to a better room, but repeatedly asked if it was okay and said we couldn't go back to reception to switch rooms again. His tone felt arrogant and threatening. He didn't apologize. Just a total jerk.
