Holiday Inn - the niu, Loco Munich North by IHG

The rooms look appealing at first, but basic problems soon show up. The air conditioning is so loud that sleeping is absolutely impossible, and one of the artsy lamps keeps clicking like a kitchen timer. There’s also a bad smell in the bathroom, which is surprising since it looks so new. The service and reception staff were shockingly unfit for the job. I agree with the other guests who criticized the service, it’s an absolute no-go. Corporate rates for booking in advance are €40 higher than booking through Booking, Travel and similar sites. My first and last time here.

The employees are very friendly, which makes a difference, and being close to the Underground makes the city center easy to reach. It’s a very good option for visiting Munich. At check-in, please explain that guests who skip room cleaning should hang the door sign, and that a donation will be made. I only found this out by reading the hanger, and I’m not sure how many guests know.

For less than €70 a night, the room was a great deal. It was new and the bed was comfortable. I did miss having a refrigerator and a kettle to make tea or coffee, but it was still very good value. Getting there by public transport isn’t too difficult. At night, though, the walk to the subway along an unlit path wasn’t something I’d recommend, so I took an Uber.

There aren’t many restaurants nearby, and breakfast felt expensive at €19. I’d have given the hotel 4.5 stars if Google allowed it, but I’m giving it 4 and would definitely stay again on my next trip to Munich. The area felt safe, with a McDonald’s and a fuel station just across the street. It’s in northern Munich, about 30 minutes by train from the city center and around 25 minutes by car from the airport. My room was spacious and well maintained, and the reception staff were friendly and helpful, making check-in easy.
