Jugendherberge München City - Hostel

The check-in staff made a really warm first impression, and the hostel was clean and well looked after. The evening staff member we dealt with was a different story, though: quite rude and unprofessional, which was disappointing. Getting into the city takes some effort since the hostel is well away from the center. Our dorm had around 12-14 beds but just one bathroom and one shower, so I can see that being difficult at busy times. Still, if you want somewhere clean, appreciate friendly daytime staff, and don't mind the distance or shared facilities, it could work.

The rooms were very clean and breakfast was great, and for the price the value was incredible. The catch for holiday visitors is the distance from many of Munich's main attractions. There's also major construction going on at the hostel. I heard they're adding a courtyard, so the finished result should be amazing, but for now, guests in building 2 may have to pass through a garage or construction area to reach it.

The fire alarm was set off deliberately later in the evening, and the whole hotel had to evacuate at 11 PM in the rain. There didn't seem to be any real effort to protect other guests' peace. We won't be back. We stayed one night and couldn't get proper rest. Groups of teenagers were running around, shouting and banging on the walls, and they knocked on our door twice. The whole stay was a huge disappointment, especially for a hotel that's meant to offer a relaxing break.

Breakfast was amazing, with loads of food and drink to choose from. We also loved the neighborhood: it's quiet, relaxed and walkable, with great restaurants nearby and a shady park and playground across the street. The city center is still only about 20 minutes away by bus or train. Our private quad room was just right for sleeping during our Munich visit. This is a comfortable, clean and safe hostel with plenty of families around. The young people staying with friends were lovely, and there wasn't a party atmosphere. I'd happily recommend it to families with children, and I'd feel comfortable with my own kids coming back as students or young travelers with friends.
