Hotel Talesman Cairo

There's no restaurant or bar, but breakfast is included, and the staff packed it to go when I needed that. The rooms are classic and very clean, and the staff are friendly and accommodating. Talisman is a good budget option in central Cairo, though I had some internet connection trouble. Finding it can be tricky: the hotel sign isn't obvious, and neither is the entrance.

We strongly advise against staying at this hotel. We spent two days there and cash was stolen from our luggage in the room, even though it was locked and the key was at reception, which is supposedly staffed around the clock. That same day, money was stolen from two other rooms. We believe the thefts were “systematic,” not coincidences. The safes in all the affected rooms were broken, and CCTV footage showed only the hotel's housekeepers in our room. It seemed clear to us that hotel staff could have carried out the theft, but management did nothing in response. The entire hotel, apart from the rooms, is covered by cameras. Guests are recorded at breakfast, in the corridors, at reception, and elsewhere, but aren't told about this surveillance. Privacy clearly doesn't seem to matter much here.
