Hotel Granvia

The room itself was a letdown for the price. It was smaller than the category we had booked, and when we raised that with reception, they denied the problem and said no other rooms were available. I’d have expected a reputable hotel to try to accommodate us, perhaps with an upgrade if possible, rather than put us in a smaller room. Although the lobby looks beautiful, the hotel feels old. The room had very basic facilities, and the bathroom was outdated and poorly laid out, with almost nowhere to put toiletries. The shower floor was so slippery it felt unsafe. They supplied a small anti-slip mat, but it didn’t cover enough of the floor, so stepping beyond it seemed risky. Given the service and condition of the room, I don’t think the stay was worth what it cost. I wouldn’t choose this hotel again.

Breakfast was a highlight across all seven mornings, with consistently outstanding dishes. The staff were patient and very helpful despite our limited language skills. We were glad we found this place, so close to many Barcelona sights, and would recommend it to our best friends.

We could walk around the city easily because the hotel is so close to the center. The building itself is beautiful, but room 102 on the first floor was noisy, right by the breakfast area. Early in the morning, the cleaning staff also left things near our door, which disturbed us. Breakfast tasted good, though the selection was the same each day. When we came down around 10 a.m., anything that had run out wasn’t replenished. My husband and I stayed five nights and six days.

The location made getting around so easy. The metro is right outside, there’s a supermarket next door, and Plaça de Catalunya, La Rambla, and lots of shops are about a five-minute walk away. I spent five nights here on my own and was welcomed after check-in with cava and two brownies delivered to my room. The hotel has a classy boutique look and seems well maintained. My room was clean and the bed was comfortable, though there can be some noise if you have loud neighbours. Mine may have been an exception. Breakfast had plenty of choice, and coffee and cookies were available through the day. I had a great stay at Hotel Granvia without any complaints and would book again when I’m back in Barcelona.
