Hostal San Isidro

We paid almost €200 a night after accidentally planning our trip during a tournament, and it felt like a rip-off. The room was cold, and the heater didn’t work. There was an AC unit but no remote. It smelled bad enough that we had to open the windows. The rooms and bathrooms were kind of gross, and the walls are so thin you can hear everything. The man at reception was rude and was never there. Avoid booking if you can.

I ended up out on the street at night with nowhere to go after refusing to stay here. The owner had asked me to call before arriving and tell him when I’d get there, which I did. While I was walking from Cibeles, about 15 minutes away, he called again to insult and threaten me because I was five minutes later than the time I’d given. After I decided not to go, he called back and threatened and insulted me again. It was a terrible experience. DANGEROUS HOSTEL, don’t go there.

The location is perfect, but the hotel itself was noisy even though my room didn’t face the street. Sleeping through the night felt like luck. The beds are small and not very comfortable, so I wouldn’t stay here again.

The place was clean and well located, but there’s no lift to the second floor. That’s fine with light luggage, but a hassle if you have heavy bags. We weren’t offered a city map, at least as far as we could tell. We left two small bags for an hour and were charged €3, but nobody told us about the fee when we dropped them off. Charges should be made clear to guests in advance.
