Apartamento Refino

Just so you know, this isn’t a hotel.

Juan was really welcoming and even pointed me toward some great restaurants. The apartment was much nicer in person than the photos suggested. I assume Juan renovated it, or perhaps has several apartments in the building, but what I arrived to was on another level. It works well for up to two people, with the bedroom upstairs and a handy dressing area beside it for clothes and suitcases. Downstairs there’s a new, fully stocked fridge in the equipped kitchen, a completely redone bathroom, a sofa with blankets for chilly weather, and a TV that lets you use Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. The location is convenient, about five minutes on foot from Plaza de la Merced and 15 from Calle Larios. It’s just outside the centre but still close to everything. Refino Street gets a fair amount of traffic since it’s the only route where vehicles don’t enter the city centre, though the apartment faces an inner courtyard and I couldn’t hear it. That courtyard also means not much natural light reaches the ground-floor apartment, even on sunny days. One tip for finding the place: the Google Maps building photo is out of date. There’s now a laundromat where it shows graffiti.
