We felt very welcome throughout our stay, thanks to the extremely friendly staff. The location was superb, and our room was clean and comfortable. But the small closet wasn’t enough for three people in a triple room. We stayed seven nights, and breakfast had exactly the same selection every day. I’d have liked more variety, especially at a four-star hotel. The rooftop pool was quite small and had a bar area, so we didn’t end up using it.

The room never cooled below 22.5, and the bathroom was warmer still. The bed sagged on one side. Still, £131 for a Sunday through Expedia in late May was excellent value for money. The location is unbeatable, the rooftop bar is brilliant, especially with live music, and although the pool is small, it’s great for cooling off under the hot Madrid sun.

Our room was quite spacious, though I think we might somehow have gotten the biggest one on the floor. The location was fantastic, with an easy walk to the old city center and to Malagueta. Get the right room and you’ll have great views too.

We told the staff ten days ahead that we were celebrating a special occasion, but arrived to find two separate single beds. If you’re hoping to impress your partner, this place may do the opposite. The welcome drinks were another letdown: a three-hour wait just to get a table, which was dirty until we asked for it to be cleaned, then another three hours before the drinks arrived. The hotel seemed to give its Rooftop bar priority to outside visitors over paying guests, who were left feeling like nobodies. I’d stay elsewhere. If you only want the view, go up to the terrace, have a quick look, and leave. It wasn’t worth the time or money.

The rooftop views are amazing, even though the pool up there is smaller than I expected. The rooms are on the small side too. What really worked for us was the location, right in the city centre and an easy walk to the beach, plus the friendly, helpful service at reception and in the restaurant. We had a great stay and I’d happily come back.
