We booked this as an overnight stop on the way to the coast, mainly because it was close to the motorway and had good reviews for its restaurant. Then, the week before we travelled, we were told the kitchen was short-staffed. The breakfast the next morning was poor for the price, though I’m not sure whether that was connected to the staffing issue. We’d hoped to avoid taxis by staying here, but with mixed reviews for the local restaurants, we ended up taking one both ways to have a fantastic meal at Le Duguesclin. It’s definitely worth the trip. Apart from that, the hotel was clean, tidy and quiet, and check-in was efficient. I might stay again next year, though I’m considering a place closer to the centre so I can visit Le Duguesclin again.

There were crisps all over the floor when we entered our room. We told the staff and they moved us to a clean one, very good service. Breakfast was excellent, and the swimming pool and table tennis were good too. In the evening you could hear cicadas in the bushes outside.

The reception staff were friendly and did their best to help us as non-French speakers. The location also works really well for a night’s stop on the way to the south of France. Our two connecting rooms weren’t especially impressive, and their air conditioning had to be set to the same temperature. If the settings differed, one unit blew hot air, which was uncomfortable in summer, especially if you like different temperatures for sleeping.

The front desk staff were incredibly kind and accommodating, and everything was very clean. The food was decent, though not amazing; breakfast had several good options. Having a pool was nice, too. This place was a gem during a really stressful time while a family member was in the hospital.

We couldn’t have lunch because of a corporate event, which was a shame after travelling a long distance. Reception Simon kindly booked us a table nearby, though. We’d checked into the bedroom we requested early, the room was nice, and the hotel’s public areas were good.
