Grand Hotel Moderne

Just steps from the sacred sites in Lourdes, France, this is a beautifully decorated old-world hotel with a luxurious feel. The staff were warm and welcoming. Simone at the Front Desk was especially helpful and arranged a cab for us. Be sure to ask for Simone when you arrive at Grand Hotel Moderne. He is gracious and helpful.

The hotel is beautiful, the rooms were clean, the front desk was considerate, and the location is great for visiting Lourdes sites. But a few problems spoiled the experience. The WiFi was unreliable, the AC didn't work well, and the plate of the day was chicken, tater tots, and a dessert. There was just one place to get ice, at the bar. When I asked, the bartender said there wasn't much and he had to save it for cocktails, then gave me a couple of cubes. Is that customer service? At the front desk, they said it was an old machine and offered to get me more. I shouldn't have had to ask. Having a broken-down ice machine for the whole hotel and these other details made it hard to enjoy the stay.

A lovely welcome and a beautiful place. Many thanks to Cecilia for finding me a room at the last minute and kindly helping with maps, restaurant suggestions, and greetings. The staff were very accommodating, and the A/C worked great.

The hotel remembered who we were when we arrived and quickly sorted out an issue with Booking.com. Staff were helpful with directions and places to visit, and they provide maps. There's also a shop with items you might need during a stay in Lourdes. Service was good, even during the busy National Rosary Pilgrimage. It's a traditional hotel with lovely features, the sort you'd see in a Hollywood movie. Our spacious room was on the second floor, and it was nice to have slippers, toothpaste, and a toothbrush provided. The hotel is perfect for the Sanctuary and Grotto, a three-minute walk from the site.
