The location is amazing and full of life, with a metro station right there, all the bus routes, and a major train station. Getting around by metro is easy. Hotel Alcace is basically somewhere to sleep, though, with no luxuries. We had no working heater for four days, while it was zero degrees outside and around 60 inside the room. Breakfast was okay, but there was no meat: just bread, hard-boiled eggs, cheese, applesauce, juice, coffee, and a small selection of pastries. You eat right in the hotel lobby entrance. Next door there's an amazing Italian restaurant and a crepe stand beside it. I highly recommend both. Expect the usual big-city street scene around here: an old lady sleeping on the sidewalk in front of the hotel and yelling at everyone, another old bum mumbling to himself nonstop, plus lots of tourists and people going about their business. It's an awesome, lively place. Stay here if you don't care about hotel luxuries and just need somewhere to crash while you explore Paris. It's perfect for that, but don't expect anything special. Two stars for the hotel, five for the location.

We booked for one night, and it was a huge mistake. The only upside was being near Gare de l’Est and Gare du Nord. Honestly, the hotel isn't worth it. The elevator only goes to the fifth floor. They first offered us a sixth-floor room, but we had luggage and asked for the fifth. We got room 505. The door's safety plan showed that rooms ending in 05 are on the building corner. As soon as we walked in, there was a moldy smell, and the bathroom had mold. The sheets were stained. The AC didn't work, and the alternative heating was two small radiators, leaving us just one outlet to charge our devices. At first we thought the heaters might be enough and didn't want to make a fuss. But after about an hour and a half under the blanket, wearing two layers on top and bottom plus winter hats, the room still wasn't warmer than about 14-15°C, or 57-59°F. We didn't inspect the towels closely. It was far too cold to shower, and the shower temperature control handle was missing anyway. We went down to ask the receptionist about the heating, since we were only there one night. I didn't get his name, but it should be easy to check who was working around 18:30 on Jan 5th. He was quite rude. He said he couldn't do anything, we were only staying one night, and the hotel was fully booked. We checked Booking right after, and there were two more rooms of the same type available. He also said we'd already been given two heaters when they usually provide one, and that if we were cold we should stay under the blanket. He blamed the snow. The forecast showed the snow had only lowered the temperature by 3°C, and that room would have been freezing anyway. We slept for five hours dressed like we were going skiing, then left early, around 5:30 am. The person at reception that morning, Jan. 6th around 5:30, seemed nice, though we only spoke briefly. After the hotel's reply: If this is their “best,” leaving guests in a 14-15°C room, they need to reconsider their standards. Problems can happen, but this doesn't seem isolated, since similar reviews mention no heating. The reception area and a few other rooms were warm, and with mold in the bathrooms, it suggests the heating in our room wasn't working at all. If so, it shouldn't be available to book. The hotel also ignored the other problems I mentioned and the fact that two rooms of the same type were still available on Booking after we were told it was “fully booked.” Nice words on a keyboard don't mean much when staff tell cold guests to stay under a blanket.

We had a nice stay. The hotel is very close to the metro and Gare du Nord main railway station. The elevator is small and barely fits two people with backpacks, so big luggage could be difficult. Still, it was a great stay.

We were happy with our stay at Hotel D'Alsace. The room was decent, clean, and had all the necessary amenities, and the location made it easy to get around. The early check-in was a lifesaver after our long-haul flights. We'd definitely recommend it to others.

The staff were pleasant and helpful, and very patient with my attempts to speak French, which isn't great. The room was quiet, clean, and comfortable, though tiny. We skipped breakfast at the hotel to try local cafes. I stayed here in Paris with my teenage son, and we loved it. The location is steps from Gare de L'Est and under a 10-minute walk from Gare du Nord, so getting to and from the airport and the metro was super easy. Everything about the hotel was what we wanted.
