Hilton Garden Inn Birmingham Airport

I booked this for my grandson because he had a job interview nearby at 9am. He felt very welcome when he arrived, liked the room, and enjoyed the restaurant food. The staff were consistently friendly and helpful. His one complaint was how much a Coke cost.

We came for a weekend event at the NEC and had a lovely stay. The room was spacious, smart and clean, and the bathroom was especially good, with lovely amenities, a big bath and a rain shower with strong water pressure. Even though we were right by the airport, we didn’t hear a thing either night. Breakfast was fresh and tasty, with plenty to choose from. The breakfast team made me feel right at home, and all the staff were lovely. I’d happily recommend staying here.

Being so close to the airport is the one good thing I can say about this place. The reception staff were less helpful than the Uber Eats driver. The person who checked us in wasn’t rude, but seemed like they didn’t want to be there and didn’t offer the level of service I’d expect from hotel staff. Our room’s mesh curtains were torn and stained, the toilet hadn’t been cleaned properly, and I’m glad our stay was just one night. Hilton hotels supposedly offer room service around the clock. At 1am I called to ask for salt and was told to go to reception. Since I was on a layover and had to get up early, I would’ve preferred to get the service I’d paid for.

The upper floor rooms have great views, the location is good and check-in was quick. The bathroom was great too. The pillows were awful, though they did bring a better one when we asked, and the bed itself wasn’t comfortable. We also didn’t care for the bar and restaurant area, which felt more like a bus terminal than somewhere to relax. Parts of the place are looking shabby.
