The Grove Cromer

The breakfast was the highlight for us, with plenty to choose from: cereals, yoghurt fruit pots, lovely fruit salads, toast with jam or marmalade, and a range of delicious cooked options. There was unlimited tea and coffee, and it was the first hotel where even the youngest children in our group finished their cooked breakfast. The staff were delightful, knowledgeable and helpful the whole time, and when one of us became ill on the final morning they kept breakfast going well past the usual time and supported us. We also enjoyed the heated pool, which was popular with the whole family. The water was just right and the surrounding area was warm for anyone sitting out. We stayed in a double room in the main hotel, while some of our extended family had garden rooms. Ours was small but just right, spotlessly clean, with a very comfortable bed, desk and chair, easy chair and hanging space. The bathroom looked recently updated and was well equipped, with an electric shower giving unlimited hot water and good toiletries. We can’t recommend The Grove highly enough and will definitely return.

The garden room was pleasant and well equipped, and my husband made good use of the pool. We had dinner at Sundown one night and in the Garden Rooms the next, and both meals were very good. It’s a lovely place, with friendly staff, a relaxed feel and a great location. We thought it would work well for a group stay and hope to come back.

The location is good, about a 15 minute walk from Cromer town, but our room was only okay. The floors and bathroom were dirty. Service was also just okay, and they added a service charge even though we had to go to the bar ourselves and our wine wasn’t poured at the table. There was a loud wedding on, which we weren’t told about at check-in. Kids from the wedding were screaming outside the doors until nearly 10pm, and it was noisy.

We chose the cosy front room by the fire for our Christmas Afternoon Tea, since we were the only customers at first. We’d booked on the Monday before Christmas and were surprised it was so quiet, though another couple arrived a little later. The service was great, the food delicious, and the big teapots were much appreciated. The Christmas touches made it feel seasonal. We’d definitely come back for another festive treat.
