Ambassador Hotel

We came back for two nights in May 2026, having stayed briefly in September 2019. The location is handy for the river walk and botanical gardens, and the West End has public transport close by. We found parking in the small, first-come, first-served car park and appreciated that it was free in Glasgow. Neil and the other staff were helpful, and the price was reasonable. We skipped breakfast, so I can’t comment on it. Room 13 was small, quiet, and clean enough on the surface, and tolerable for a short stay though not really to my taste. It’s clearly worn: the carpet looked grubby and needs replacing, the walls were scuffed, the hand soap dispenser was broken, and the windowsill was dirty. Since it was warm and there’s no A/C, we had the windows open. The curtains had dirty, possibly mouldy spots, especially near the bottom by the sill where damp might be getting in. Wi-Fi is free, but too slow or weak for streaming or loading social media. We were only there briefly and didn’t raise the problems with management. For a quick, affordable West End stay with transport nearby and free parking, it was adequate.

The quiet spot is close to local amenities, with a lovely path beside the River Kelvin right outside that heads further into the city. The hotel had a calm feel, and the rooms were clean and tidy. Staff were friendly and helpful too. I can’t fault it and will definitely be back :)

Neil deserves a special thank you for going out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. The service was warm and family-friendly, and the room was spotless and well looked after. It’s also a great base, with an easy, pleasant walk to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and the Riverside Museum. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend it.

I’d put it at about 4.5 stars. The room was very large and reasonably priced. I thought it would have a fridge, but I may have missed that in the details. The location in Glasgow’s trendy West End is great, near the botanical gardens, museums, bars, shops, river trails, the university, and the subway.
