The Hurdwick

We had a lovely stay and would come back. The three-person room was quiet, clean and spacious, and having two separate toilets was great. The staff were welcoming and happy to help with anything. The location was excellent. Parking was a little hard to find, but the host kindly helped us.

The building is well placed for Camden and other interesting areas, right by a Northern line station. There's a shared space with a small garden, tables, a little sofa, and tea and coffee for everyone. I stayed in a basement room, though, and the noise went on all night, especially on weekends when people were out partying. I had earplugs, so that part wasn't a problem for me. Sirens from ambulances going up and down the street could still beat even the best earplugs. The bed was the big problem. It had a deep dip in the middle that left my body misaligned, like an overused, cheap mattress might. The room was too hot and stuffy, and I couldn't leave the window open overnight because of the noise. There was no way to turn down the radiator. The slippery, paper-thin sheets rustled every time I moved, which was a bad match for the sunken mattress. We'd been told parking near the hotel was included, but that was completely false. There is no parking available, only permit-holder spaces with a two-hour limit. We had to drive around for a long time and pay quite a bit more to park far away. A little honesty would've made a big difference. I don't know whether other rooms or beds are better, but the basement one was pretty bad for £80 a night. If you can sleep through noise on a bumpy bed, it might work for you. Next time I'll spend the money on a Premier Inn or Travelodge.

The room seemed recently refurbished and was bright and clean, with a comfortable bed. Secondary glazing kept street noise at an acceptable level, and the heating and hot water worked well. The bathroom extractor didn't work, though. There was no chair or desk, but they did provide a kettle with tea and coffee.

It's a clean, low-budget room in a great spot, close to Mornington Crescent Tube and an easy walk from Camden centre. The mattress and sheets were comfortable, not too rough or stiff. It doesn't seem suitable for disabled people, and guests in top-floor rooms need to be able to carry their own luggage.
