We wanted something with more character than an antiseptic corporate hotel, and the Mad Hatter delivered. It's cool and funky, with great music in the lobby and attached pub. The staff were so friendly that after a day we were chatting like old friends. We ate breakfast in the pub every day, and the full English was fantastic. We also stopped there for a drink each night before bed. The comfortable room had everything we needed, and we could easily walk from Southwark tube station. It was a really convenient base for the sights we wanted to see. This was a bucket list trip for us, and I can't imagine a better place to have stayed.

The staff were really nice and helpful, and I'd definitely consider staying here again. It's a pub hotel, with rooms that are a bit worn, though nothing really bothered me. Just be aware of that. The breakfast buffet is small, but you can order from the menu, or simply ask for some bacon and eggs. Blackfriars is an easy walk over the bridge.

We'd booked The Wellington Hotel, but before we arrived they told us the property was being renovated. They offered a room at a partner hotel for the same price to honor our booking, and we chose The Mad Hatter in Southwark. It turned out to be an excellent choice. The reception staff were warm, welcoming and incredibly helpful from the moment we arrived. They gave us tips for getting around London, suggested attractions to see, and recommended nearby places such as Greenwich. After long days exploring, our spacious, clean and cosy room was just what we wanted. The included breakfast was a welcome surprise and beautifully cooked. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay and would highly recommend The Mad Hatter to anyone visiting London.

All the staff were lovely, friendly and helpful, and made us feel welcome. The room was clean and nicely decorated, in a good location. The breakfast was fine, with lots of options. The decor throughout is great and on theme without going overboard. We stayed last night, Thursday. The duvet was thick and made us very hot, but we'd definitely recommend the place.

We liked our stay at The Mad Hatter Hotel. Its location was excellent, with several Underground stops nearby that made getting around London easy, especially once our feet were tired from sightseeing. The staff deserve a lot of credit. The front desk team also works in the pub downstairs, and everyone we dealt with was friendly, helpful and accommodating. One night, after the pub kitchen had stopped serving, they suggested late-night delivery options. That was much appreciated after a full day in the city. One moment meant a lot to us as two women travelling together. While we were sitting in the pub, a couple of strangers started talking to us, and the bartender quietly checked in to make sure we were comfortable and okay. That kind of awareness and care really mattered. The room was comfortable and practical, with everything we needed, though I wouldn't call it luxurious. Robes and slippers were provided, and we loved having a Nespresso machine and mini fridge. The fridge didn't seem to stay very cold, though, and the milk inside smelled a bit off, so I didn't use it. The pub downstairs was lively and convenient without disturbing us. Our main noise issue came from outside: there were quite a few sirens overnight, so light sleepers might want earplugs. To me, it feels less like “luxury London” and more like a smart London base. It was comfortable, well located, felt safe, and the staff paid attention. I'd absolutely stay here again. Good service deserves applause. Bad service deserves notes. No notes.
