Breakfast was a letdown, though the hotel was good value and recently refurbished, so it looked fresh. My room was small but fine; the bathroom felt old and a little dated. The location worked well, between the railway station and town centre, and the gentleman who checked me in was friendly and helpful. I arrived more than 30 minutes before breakfast ended, but heard the chef tell another customer there would be no more cooked eggs that day. There was barely any bread left, the cold section was very depleted, and the croissants were stale.

The central location made it easy to get to the shops, restaurants, theatre and train station. Staff were very friendly, and when I asked for a quiet room with a nice view for my wife and me, I got just that. The hotel also offers free tea and coffee around the clock, plus free breakfast. The room was too warm, and not being able to control the temperature was a bit of a pain. We could hear noise through the walls from both adjoining rooms, so the sound insulation needs work. Breakfast could be improved a lot, even if that meant charging a little more. I’m taking a star off for the noise and breakfast, but I’d still recommend staying here and would come back next time.

Staff were really kind and helpful, and the location is pretty central, conveniently close to the train station. The rooms are clean, fairly spacious and have pretty much what you need. It’s a three-star hotel, so it may not have all the little extras you’d find in a four-star place. Breakfast was decent, though the eggs could be better, but that’s a small thing. Prices were pretty good even though I booked quite close to the date I needed. Definitely a lovely stay, recommended.

It got better after a rough check-in. The receptionist Shannon, later in the afternoon, was lovely and very helpful. I got the room on the 8th floor I’d requested, and it was nice, with a comfortable bed. Breakfast was adequate and the service was excellent, with staff constantly cleaning, tidying and helping. For 50 quid, it did what it said on the tin. Plymouth Argyle got a point, so I’m happy overall. At first, reception was a poor experience: a strange eastern European type with limited vocabulary wouldn’t let me check in early. I also don’t understand why there’s no kettle, tea or coffee in the room. There may be a 24-hour coffee machine at reception, but who wants to go down late at night or early in the morning? Shower pressure was shocking, and the thin walls meant private moments could be heard by the next-door neighbours, which wasn’t good.

Right in the town centre, this is a lovely hotel with modern, quiet, clean rooms that are a good size. The bed was massive and comfortable, and the staff were super friendly. Breakfast is served buffet-style with lots of choice. There’s also a coffee machine available 24/7 and vending machines in the hall. Highly recommended.
