Hotel Pine Astoria

It's a modest budget hotel, and I heard mixed things about the staff. The people handling breakfast were professional, humble, and helpful. The reception team could use more training to improve their professionalism.

The street up to the hotel is steep, which could be difficult for older guests or anyone with mobility problems. Still, this is one of the best choices in the area, and I highly recommend it for a comfortable stay. The staff were very polite and spoke English fluently, so communication was easy. Service was excellent, attentive, and thorough. Breakfast had plenty of delicious options. The rooms were spacious, clean, and well organized, with everything you might need, including an iron, hair dryer, shampoos, and lotions. The toiletries were a thoughtful touch, especially for women.

The mattresses were comfortable, some of the breakfast staff were friendly and helpful, and the cleaning staff were polite and efficient. But the pool and gym were closed, and management never told me before or after booking. From the construction progress I saw during my stay, those facilities will probably stay unavailable for several months. That lack of transparency felt unfair. The location wasn't ideal. It's walkable to the city center, but without the pool and gym it felt average, especially since the same price can get you somewhere more central with better facilities. The air conditioning and ventilation didn't work properly either. Even on cooling mode with the temperature turned down, the air stayed warm. The booking site listed the hotel as “Hotel Astoria” instead of “Pine Astoria,” which made it hard to find the right entrance. I strongly recommend avoiding it. The value for the money is poor, and there are plenty of better options in the city.

The rooms were spacious and clean. The location was recommended to us, but in reality it felt rather isolated, and we had to walk a while to get to the square or main street. It didn't bother us much because we spent most of our time out. Breakfast was okay, though not what you'd expect from a typical five-star hotel. The gym is basic and looks onto an outdoor corridor.
