Metropolis Hotel

The Acropolis view from our room was beautiful, but the cleanliness and noise made the stay unbearable. The balcony and window doors didn’t seal properly, so we could hear people below having ordinary conversations, not just yelling. The church bells were very loud on the hour, though that was to be expected with a church right next door. What I didn’t expect was how much sound carries inside the hotel. The soundproofing is so poor you can hear people talking on the first floor from the top. Doors opening, usually slammed by loud guests, could be heard too. Around 3 am on our first night, someone dragged what sounded like a bag of empty bottles, and the noise echoed through our room. By far the worst hotel I’ve stayed in recently. It was a very unpleasant experience despite the view. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

The rooftop is a great spot for the Acropolis and central Athens views, and breakfast is served up there, though we missed it. The hotel’s location also worked really well as a base for exploring Athens, and we’d stay again. Our room was small, as expected, but the bed was super cozy and the view was excellent. There wasn’t much space for luggage, especially with the extra baggage we’d picked up during our time in Greece. We stayed one night after visiting other places before our flight home, and without the car trunk the room would’ve felt pretty tight. If you’re driving, parking could be tricky. There are 2 maybe 3 spots in front, with no underground or parkade parking. We got one when someone was leaving, but I’d contact the hotel beforehand to make sure they save you a space. Otherwise you may need to book a valet parkade.

The only drawback for me was that the entrance locks at midnight. Unless I missed another way in, that put a limit on going out at night. Otherwise, the rooftop patio has a beautiful Acropolis view, and breakfast is lovely and affordable, with omelets included. The Metro station for the airport is just a short walk away.

If you’re on a budget and visiting for a short stay, this is definitely one of the best choices. It may not be fancy, but the location in the middle of Plaka puts you close to everything. The terrace view is breathtaking, and breakfast there costs 8 euros per person, which isn’t bad at all.
