Thomas Hotel Budapest

We stayed over the weekend from 29 January to 2 February. It’s a bit outside the centre, but the underground and trams are well connected. The hotel looks dated and a little mismatched, not especially stylish, but the room and shared areas were all very clean. The beds were comfortable and the staff helpful. Two adults paid £101 for three nights, which was an absolute bargain. There’s a hairdryer, shower, TV with Hungarian channels, safe, lift, outdoor courtyard seating, luggage room and 24-hour reception. Sorry, I didn’t take photos.

The staff were the one good part of this stay. They dealt politely with all our complaints and requests, which is a shame given how poorly maintained the building is. I was part of a group of 12, and we were all shocked by the conditions. This was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Cleanliness was unacceptable. The sheets, mattresses and walls were visibly dirty, and we found spiders. One room smelled so strongly that we had to ask to move. Towels were stained and full of holes, so our group had to request replacements just to get usable ones. The bathroom had no toilet lid or trash can. The shower sprayed in random directions, and its doors wouldn’t close all the way, so the floor flooded each time. The safes didn’t work, and a window in one room couldn’t be shut or locked, leaving it cold and insecure. Some hallway lights kept flickering, several lamps didn’t work, and an electrical outlet in one room was faulty and seemed very poor quality, which could be dangerous. These structural and hygiene problems are too serious to ignore. All 12 of us ran into issues, and I strongly advise against staying here until it’s fully renovated.

I went in to ask for help and got spoken to by the rudest woman I’ve ever met. She was at the hotel front desk, and her attitude was disgusting. I’ve never been treated that way in my life. It was so unprofessional and honestly felt inhuman. She should be fired. I’d tell everyone to avoid this place unless they want to be berated. Worst person I’ve ever spoken to, and the worst hotel in budapest.

The location is good, and the garage was okay, though it costs 15 euros a day. Inside, it was very dirty, there were no towels or bathroom supplies, every single piece of furniture was broken, and the sheets had holes. All the negative reviews are true.
