Springfield Hotel

During my stay the room reached 80°, with no window to open and only a tiny fan offered. The temperature control didn’t work. There was also loud music from events in the space below the family guest rooms, which the hotel allows to continue until 12:30am. It’s convenient for DUB, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The young man working the till area was exceptionally friendly and lovely, a real credit to the hotel. The carvery was tasty and had some vegetables you don’t usually see, like red cabbage, root vegetable mix and broccoli. But my half portion was tiny and not worth €16.50. Maybe I’m used to the Sunday half dinner at Castle Arch hotel Trim, where you get a decent amount. Even though it tasted very good, I wouldn’t come back for it because I’d leave hungry. My two friends had toasted sandwiches, which were quite adequate. The desserts were lovely too, especially the apple crumble and custard. My friend’s berry roulade was small but lovely. Would I return? Don’t know.

The carvery was just okay, with the usual sort of fare and stuffing that’s basically breadcrumbs. They normally have two choices of meat or fish. At €17, it’s on the expensive side. Be sure to ask for a gravy boat.

The breakfast buffet is extensive, and there’s plenty of parking both out front and in the underground car park. My room was very quiet, large, modern and well equipped, with a balcony. I’d have liked a fridge and a proper shower instead of a bathtub. Check-in at reception was friendly and quick. It’s only a few minutes’ walk to Leixlip town center, with plenty of restaurants and takeaways. Very good value for money, and I can recommend the hotel without reservation.
