Emerald Fields

It’s very central and has a relaxed, friendly feel. I enjoyed my stay a lot. It’s a hostel, so keep expectations realistic, but it was clean. I’d worried about the bed bug reviews, yet it was very, very clean, and they clean twice a day. There’s a kitchen. The bathrooms are shared, so expect to get up early or wait your turn. The bathroom door could use a little fixing.

The location was really good, close to everywhere, and the bed was comfortable. The bathrooms and toilets were very clean, the room was warm, and I didn’t run into any problems. The rooms were a little small and stuffy, though, and the closets couldn’t fit a suitcase. The walls also weren’t soundproof, so I could hear everyone coming in.

The staff were helpful and nice, and the room was fine and pretty clean. I’d heard reports of bed bugs from other guests the night before and was worried, but my room was spared. The common area is small and mostly used by smokers. It’s a convenient base for exploring Florence, fairly close to the city center.

We found a bed bug crawling across the bed when I stayed here in February, and my friend was bitten too. We didn’t want to stay in what felt like bed bug land, so we asked for a refund. The man who came was disrespectful and suggested we had brought the bug in. Looking at the reviews, it seems clear this hostel has a bed bug problem. They refunded only half, paid in cash, which felt really sketchy. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you don’t want to deal with a bed bug infestation.
