Casa Castelvecchio

Six friends from Mantua We stayed in April 2025 and would love to come back to Matera soon, both to enjoy the city and to stay at B&B del Castelvecchio again. Simona helped us from the time we booked, with information and advice for our stay, and even arranged the guided tour. Oksana welcomed us warmly, and Michele helped us when we left. The B&B is in a stunning spot, just a few meters from Matera Cathedral and the wonderful view over the Sassi. The building is beautiful and full of character, with spacious, clean rooms. In the common room there’s everything you need for a good coffee after a day exploring the city. The people of Matera are truly lovely and hospitable.

The rooms were clean and really lovely, and we had a great time. Our host Simona was perfect, always helpful.

Everything was peaceful, with a spacious, welcoming room, a fully equipped bathroom, and a calm that seemed to wrap around us. The place is simple, warm, clean, and full of magic, like being inside a castle carved from tuff. The B&B del Castelvecchio sits among the Sassi, between the Sasso Caveoso, the Sasso Baritoso, and the new city center. We were greeted by Oksana’s clear, serene smile, and she passionately showed us the city’s highlights. Simona and Oksana run this fairytale-like place, and their kindness was superb. For my partner’s birthday, we found a special gift from them that made the celebration complete.

We had a great stay during a recent business trip to Matera, and we’ll definitely return. The B&B is charming and quaint, with a beautiful location just steps from the cathedral. Our double room was comfortable and well heated in the colder months, with a convenient shower in the bathroom. The service was excellent, and everything was very clean.
