Sax Barisano

Aldo and his wife Rosa went out of their way to make us feel at home, and the room was fantastic. The location is perfect, and it was an amazing experience. There’s also a great restaurant connected to the property, serving traditional food!!!

Aldo and his wife were incredibly warm and helpful, and the place was perfectly situated. We loved the stunning balcony view and had a lovely two-night stay. Wish we could have stayed longer. I hope to return one day!

Aldo drove us from the parking area to the room, which was a kind touch. The hosts were really welcoming, and breakfast was incredible, with local food. Our spacious room also had a lovely terrace, and the place is right in Matera’s historic town.

We loved the balcony and its amazing view over the sassi, and the apartment itself was charming, clean, comfortable, and well equipped. The modern bathroom had a great shower. Breakfast was hearty and delicious, and Aldo even packed something for later in the day. Aldo made our stay feel special from the start. He picked us up when we arrived and drove us when we left, since we didn’t have a car. He showed us around, marked sites on a map, and suggested excellent restaurants. When we struggled with the apartment temperature, he came by within minutes to help. We asked where to buy wine, and he soon arrived with some. We enjoyed talking with him, often with Google Translate, and hearing about his family, who he’s clearly proud of, and life in Matera. We also had the pleasure of meeting Rosa and his grandson. Matera is a unique and interesting place, but Aldo’s warmth and generous hospitality are what made our visit so memorable. We miss you already, Aldo! We highly recommend staying at Sax Barisano.
